Movies (04)

Scoop:

Oh, incidentally, he thinks my name is Jade Spence, so that makes you Mr. Spence.

Imagine yourself as a reporter, got a big story as a first one, but you're actually dead... What will you do? 2006, IMDb. ~

Casino Royale:

My name is Bond, James Bond.

This might be one giant leap for Bond movies, one small step for the cinematography. 2006, IMDb.

Miami Vice:

Somebody's something's got to go somewhere, some when.

If you gotta mess up with bad guys, you better be bad guy too. I've got an impression this movie has similar atmosphere as Collateral, then checked this out, and... Michael Mann is the link :-) Perfect movie, not only for Isabella plus Sonny, and the end. At first, I wanted to quote "Hola, chica" which is saying quite a lot, still not enough though. 2006, IMDb. ~

A Scanner Darkly:

What happened? How'd I get here? ... Nothing would ever change. Nothing new could ever be expected. It had to end, and it did.

I think, this is the first movie based on novel by Philip K. Dick which actually has got the same atmosphere as his books has (I mean, Blade Runner, Minority Report are perfect movies, but the feelings coming from them doesn't match). Careful though, it's really paranoid, scary, and sort of dark. 2006, IMDb. ~

Hard Candy:

Is this insane? Am I insane? Is Jeff?

Crime and punishment... who's more sick though? 2005, IMDb.

Movies (03)

Even though I haven't enough time for the movies in these days, there you go with another list...

Thank You for Smoking:

But you can't be always right.

Well, if your job to be right, then you're never
wrong.

All what matter is your point of view and... your morals. 2005, IMDb. ~

Down in the Valley:
You think everything has something suppose to do... or to be?
Some cowboys shouldn't have step down the valley. 2005, IMDb.

Flightplan:
Now, we're going to continue to search this aircraft from the waist
upwards.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry to interrupt. It seems we have got delusional passenger onboard. Perhaps, I am mistaken?" Don't forget to make sure check out the final credits. 2005, IMDb. ~

Panic Room:

It's called panic room. A safe room. A castle keep in medieval times.

What happened if the very safe hideout turns into the deadly trap? 2002, IMDb. ~

Renaissance:

Without death, life has no meaning...

Black and white, cartoon-like, in French... It suppose to be film noir, it didn't work with me though. 2006, IMDb.

An Inconvenient Truth

We've seen the movie An Inconvenient Truth (2006, IMDb) more then one week ago and since that time I've been thinking to post something about this movie (thanks to Felicity for the idea to go to the cinema). A documentary movie about the hot topic in these decades, global warming.

Frankly speaking I was surprised by the movie in many ways. At first, I didn't know how good rhetorician Al Goore is. He did great job in this movie -- highlighted the main issues and made parallels with his own experiences and life. The way of this style and speaking seemed be really American to me. And I kind of like this way, really good show which can make people pay attention. This should be a good way how to explain and describe this problem to as many people as possible. According Gore, he did a lot of presentation all over the world and still thinking he have to do more.

The only way I know how to do this is city by city, person by
person, family by family.

I didn't know how much is Gore involved in this topic. There are additional scenes in the movie which showing us his work and thoughts concerning the global warming. Also a lot of disturbing and surprising facts is included and the creators are at the end providing the possible solutions to prevent incoming disaster, which are obviously focused on the States and the other developed countries (see interesting statistics).
The only question is, who's going to be responsible for the turn over. Do ordinery people have enough power and wisdom to do that? Shouldn't be there clear and loud signal from their politicians? On top of it, there is a catch, as usual. The whole thing will require most likely huge and massive cooperation across the world. Are we really able to do that? Is every contry willing to do that? Who's going to be a leader in that matter? US as a country who haven't sign up for Kyoto Protocol yet? China with their outstanding economic boom and their raising needs for the resources? Anyway, I hope there will be the answers coming soon.
And the last surprise, personal one. I realized that I've been actually staring at the screen how many Caucasian faces there were. Even though, I was here just for one months at that time and I'm not hanging out only with Chinese.

Of course, there is another point of view. One can say something like that everyone on Earth knows about that except Americans and they are exactly the ones who don't care about the environment at all. You might add this is just a movie and it won't convince anyone. You may point out the fact the boiling frog is only an urban legend. And you can also think that has been long time from Al Gore's vice-presidency and he wanted to show off himself a bit. However, in any case, this movie worth to see. Go for it...

Movies (01)

I was just thinking about to publish brief notes regarding the movie which I've seen lately. If you're looking for some movies to watch you might wanna get some ideas. And it helps me to keep the list of movies. Some of them worth to try (see the ~ sign).

The Lake House:

Okay, my mystery correspondent, I get it.

Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, and their nice way of sharing life through time. 2006, IMDb. ~

Edmond:

Now look what you've done.

How can an ordinary guy became a madness in one night. Or is this a something else behind this story? 2005, IMDb. ~

Closer:

Hello stranger.

I already saw this movie last year with Qimin. I was a bit nostalgic in these days and in the mood for this movie too, so I watched again. Another reason was Clive Owen, who draw my attention since The Hire series (great BMW commercials) and Inside Man. 2004, IMDb. ~

The Sentinel: Michael Douglas as an agent with one tiny secret and one huge issue. 2006,
IMDb.

The Da Vinci Code:

I am on the Grail quest.

Apparently I'm the last one who saw this. Nothing special. Better to read a book, which is also nothing special though (anyway, it's got quite easy English). 2006, IMDb.
